I'd be surprised if it went that fast. Don't forget that China has taken over a lot of the space outside of the USA that was vacated and they're not going to back out just like that.
The tears shed by the antisocial weirdos on this website if that happens will be enough to quench the thirst of the entire country after being run through a desalination plant. Good.
In Canada, we often say that we don't vote governments in, we vote them out. This saying is an admonishment to whoever just replaced the losers: "You didn't win. You were just there when we kicked the other guys out. Do you want to be next?"
The Democrats did not win this election. They were just there when the Republicans lost it. I've already heard Democrat commentators say that they'll win in 2028 if they get nothing done over the next two years because Trump veto'd everything. They said this as if it was a good thing!
Don't count on it. The U.S. has started a lot of fires around the world in the last two years. Some are burning strongly enough that, if the U.S. doesn't put them out promptly, somebody else or some group of nations will. An American's first reaction might be, "Won't it be great if somebody does the U.S.'s job for a change?" Being the benevolent "Global hegemon" was the U.S.'s job. If you're not doing the job, you're no longer it. If somebody else starts doing that job, the U.S. will just be another misbehaving middle power with an overly expensive military and no soft power. Trump has shown what relying completely on hard power and neglecting soft power can accomplish.
Having the Democrats in control of Congress is a step forward, but it's just a tiny first step. Americans, don't let your leaders play at politics for two years while the fires keep burning. Congratulate your new representatives, but don't let them believe they won this election. They were just there when the Republicans lost it. Their task is to keep the job, if they can.
Now lets see if they actually do something to fix the broken system of checks and balances that got us here and bring some actual accountability for the insane levels of corruption.
Let the damage mitigation begin. Then from 2030, there's about a generation worth of damage to start repairing.

Chinese investment in AI has gotten increasingly bearish, I wouldn't be so certain
Stock futures already started dropping, as traders believe Democrats will slow down data center buildout or other AI investment.
It's real. Every single possible data center ban passed: https://x.com/jdcapelouto/status/2117786709173645427
We can only hope!

This is a good case for voting systems that don't favour 2-party politics.
