Ryanair have a finely-tuned marketing machine, dedicated to making everything they do seem as cheap and nasty as possible. In the long term people remember the "cheap" part more than anything else, which is why it works so well for them (another HN user once called it "selling the illusion of the bargain bin").
So I guess the shoddiness of this is deliberate - it's only a wonder that the don't try to shoehorn an ad for scratchcards in at the end!
When I was stuck trying to get to London yesterday, Ryanair began to give updates via this creepy Synthesia-powered lady. She's twitchy, hesitant, definitely uncanny, and reminds me of the cut-scene characters who would interrupt the flow of 1990s CD-ROM games.
