Just use Sefaria for the Old Testament. Jews put a few thousand years of effort into translation and interpretation. The whole thing is even hosted on GitHub. They would know more than anyone else what they meant when they wrote it.
I don't know where Christians went wrong (the Reformation? Scofield?) but their schizophrenic insistence on reconciling selective adherence to the Old Testament with only the most-pacifist teachings of Jesus in the New makes the whole religion a suicide cult. Despite him being rabidly antisemitic we don't talk about that, and these days his namesake cult routinely sacrifices its children in service of Israel's militaristic endeavors. We violate literally every clause in our covenant with God, tattooing, poisoning, mutilating, defiling, and killing ourselves, and calling ourselves virtuous as we act like animals while somehow also failing at our basic primal charter of being fruitful and multiplying.
What Christ needs is not better translation, but a better breed of disciple. Our orders were clear. We have convinced ourselves that surrender is virtue. This mindset will never thrive; it invites enslavement.
